Guys,

I'm trying to create a custom big brake setup to go under my OEM wheels. Does anyone know how much radial clearance you need to leave between the caliper and the wheel?

Are there any official guidelines for this?

bump!

do you design taking into account the risk of small stones getting dragged round?

Have seen some pics of brembos on this forum practically touching the rim. Surely there have to be some guidelines? Perhaps this calls for an e-mail to AP tech......

I would have thought that a minimum iof about 3mm should be safe, I had a very early Brembo kit that was closer than that, and I did get stone stuck, but they just get smashed up and then score the wheels, although, if the stone were big enough it could maybe cause allsorts of other trouble, but I would have thought that 3mm should be a good starting point, it also depends slightly on where in the wheel the caliper sits, some sit further in than others!

It also depends very much on the rigidity of the wheel and the type of usage the car will see. Some wheels actually flex quite a lot under heavy cornering forces on track. I don't believe you'll find any "official" guidelines for that. I'd also leave at least 3mm gap...

Thanks for your replier guys - the line I recieved from AP and another US caliper manufacturer (www.outlawdiscbrakes.com) is that it needs to be 3mm + to be on the safe side.
Cheers
