Anyone had this problem with their pads & late 2 pot calipers?

I recently fitted a new set of Black Diamond combi discs and predator pads to my 98 UK and noticed that the inside pads were difficult to fit into the slots with the stainless steel inserts.
Anyway, I tapped them in with a hammer and refitted everything.
After bedding in, I noticed that the pedal was going from very spongy to rock hard, making me double pump every now and then.

I took it to a garage and explained saying that I thought the system needing bleeding - also explained about the new discs etc.
The guy said that he's seen this problem before on another modded Scooby. The "ears" on the pads' back plate needed slight grinding down to enable them to slot in easily. Otherwise they would just bind on one end, and then the other (after pumping the pedal). Hence the spongy feel to rock hard feel.

I took the pads out and ground the "ears" down and hey presto! No more sponginess!!

Thinking back, the previous "std" pads were badly fitting too, and the pedal was spongy back then aswell - seems like either my calipers were made on a friday afternoon, or someone is making the pads tolerances too tight?!

I've had that with some EBC Greenstuff on my old car.
I too had to get the file out and take a bit of the metal off the ears
