currently have 17" alloys on a classic but the brakes behind them seem tiny.

would like to upgrade the brakes to a bigger disc etc, but dont want to spend a fortune - just after a nice good set of stoppers with a good appearance - I'd like the caliper to be noticable when in motion.

What brakes have you got? Are they 2 pot or 4 pot?

Do a scoobynet search on godspeed.

They do conversion kits using the original calipers up to 330mm (i.e. filling your wheels), drilled, grooved or both are no cost options (around £5-600)

Or if you stretch to it they also used to sell big disc brembo kits for under a £1000.

I got the smaller 308mm kit so I can fit on my old 16inch alloys, look great drilled & grooved with red brembo calipers.

p.s. they work well too

Rich
edited to add pic (17 inch BK121)

Check in the For Sale section. A guy was selling Pagid disks and pads for £200. Sounds like just what you need. But you'll have to be quick.

Thumbs up

The Brembo's are good, and look nice: they're what I have.
Ian at Godspeed does a kit to put up to 330mm discs, (two-part, with alloy bell), under existing Scoob 4 pots, and the kit includes bits to modify the calipers. Easy to fit, Ian's stuff is top-notch.

Kit looks good if you paint the calipers with Hammerite, and pick out the "Subaru" on them in a different colour b4 you refit them.
Have a look on his website, but he's awy until second week in October.
Gives you time to shop around and save up, I suppose:
