OK, not very scientific, but then again I'm not... or handy. A friend has changed my front pads on my MY99. There are two "bits" that go alongside the pads - a solid piece of metal and a lattice work design. The latter, on both sides, have seen much better days. One has even rusted away at one end.

Question: what are these thin bits of metal that are falling apart and are they a standard brake part I can get from Halfords or somesuch?

Apologies for the stupid question.

They are the anti squeel shims. I don't think that Halford's do them. Dealer only.

Thanks Mark. Thought so but didn't want to risk appearing even more brain dead by saying so only to find out they weren't. But then I would say that, wouldn't I?

I shall call the dealer tomorrow.

If they're not fitted now and it's not squealing then I wouldn't bother, brakes will still work just as well without them.
