Bought some new brake pads and it says that they should be bedded as per manufacturers instructions (??)

Which pads have you got? Bedding-in procedure is different for track/race spec pads than for road/fast road jobbies.

Question

Allied Nippon (says for Nissan 200ZX on box) - I don't think they are any race type ones as they were pretty cheap...

if its std type pads then........
use anything up to medium braking for fist 150miles (don't be scared to use them just don't go mad!!), gradually build up the pressure and type of stop over the next 50 mile and bingo.....one nicely bedded pad set..........
