wheel upgrade
#1
I have a sti8 and am thinking of an upgrade, but they recomend an 18" wheel upgrade because of the extra power i believe, what i want to know is with an 18" wheel can i still have 45mm tyres. On my WRX i had 30mm tyres and you had to watch every rut every kurb and a very hard ride. Any idears on wheels? not gold?

When you say 45mm / 30mm, do you mean 45 / 30 profile?
The profile is not expressed as an explicit measurement, it is a percentage of the width of the tyre, so a 235/45/18 for instance is going to have a larger profile than a 195/45/18.
e.g.
205 / 50 H R 16 means:
205mm tread width, 50 profile (ie 50% of 205mm), H = speed rating, 16 = wheel size in inches.
(sorry if you already knew this, not trying to teach you to suck eggs or anything!)

If you've got 17" wheels now and your tyres are: 225/45/17 or 215/45/17 then you can run 225/40/18's on your 18" wheels or 215/40/18's. This gives you enough tyre between your alloy and the road for any normal holes (not the massive ones that the lower part of your car ends up in another country with) and easily enough for the cornering.
Depends what you want from the wheel - I've just got 18" Speedline Turini's for my STI-8 in gold, but they make them in silver and white as well and are specially made for the Scooby with the offset just right.

these are top alloys, but dont think u get them anymore. there italian called technomagnesia detroit f1, 18" , with very low profile tyres. under any artificial lighting it looks like no other metal uve ever seen!
