MY03WRX - Standard Pad Wear
#1
At my recent 10,000 mile service, was told my front pads will need replacing in about 5,000 miles and seeing as 'they normally last between 20 and 30,000 miles, perhaps I was 'over-driving' the car'.
Not sure if this is normal or not, especially as 70% of my miles are done on the motorway?

I recently had a 6 month service on my 99 scooby at Subaru,Gatwick. They said that the pads would need replacing before the next service which I thought was ok as they have never been replaced(cars done 25k).2 weeks ago I had the wheels of for a good polish and found to my surprise that all pads had about a 1/4 inch left on them ! I don't know how thick they are new but I recon I've got plenty of wear left,I think Gatwick was fishing for work as they quoted £200 + for the Job
PS Subaru pads have a bent piece of spring steel fitted as a wear indicator that will make the brakes scream continuosly long before you start to damage the disk's

MY01 WRX Two sets of Subaru pads and a set of disks 30,000mls. I'm no nutter only fast road driving no track day's. Recently fitted pagid 8 groove front disks with pagid rs4-2 pads. The dogs bollocks really pleased, already fitted goodridge hoses and dot 5.1 brake fluid. For less than £400 all in this upgrade makes a huge diffrence in brake bite and stopping power. No brake squeal or dust so far.
