Question

All,

had a Impreza sport while mine being serviced and was impressed by how well the brakes 'bit'. My STI7 which seems to stop well needs much more effort - I am wondering if I have a problem, perhaps they need bleeding (although pedal travel is short and not spongy) or perhaps the pads need to be hotter etc etc

Please advise??

the sti7 has fairly "soft" pads as std to help with an inherent noise issue......this can give the effect of the brakes being poor in response, however you would probs find that they are deceptive and are working better than the courtesy car's...
did it have ABS?? this can also effect pedal feel in regards to 'bite'....
normal recomend if you want to improve the brakes is to fit something like Pagid rs4.2.1 which will offer a good all-round upgrade to the stopping power

I am aware of no particular noise issues with the STi 7 brakes that would warrant a compromise in pad efficiency to resolve it!

They (STi's), are not sold as 'sports cars', its just us that see them that way.

Try some DS2500 pads, (we keep them in stock for the 7/8) They are a lot better, even from cold. Don't forget the STi is a much heavier car than the sport model and that can drastically alter the feel/bite at the pedal.

Thanks for the info guys,

any idea on prices for the pads you mention? Also, do they wear discs a great deal faster? - I guess the question is are there any downsides with using none Subaru pads??

mail me for any specific info........(can cause probs with scoobynet posting prices!!)
although slightly more expensve initially, the Pagid will offer better wear be kinder to the disc than the ds2500.....both available at better prices than the O.E. kit!!!!!!
