Question

Just had my wheels removed to be re-tyred and spotted a problem.

They are Prodrive wheels and have tapered holes. What looks like has happened is that the original Subaru rounded bolts have been used, instead of tapered ones. This has caused them to bite into the taper, and has badly burred the holes in the wheel.

The alloy wheel place which were going to re-tyre them has refused to fit them on the grounds of safety, as the bolts wont fit tight now. They said its quite common.

The taper is a 60 degree one.

Question is, can they be repaired? I imagine they could be machined off smooth again, but would lose a bit of clearance.

Anyone else had this?

Or how's about a valve seating tool, they're used to cut a new seat on worn valves in cylinder heads, so they work on hardened stuff, and come with different tapers too!

I have one, BUT not a 60 degree bit,
A tool suppliers might be able to assist, not sure on cost!
Try DHS Tool Supply, in Haymoor road Parkstone, why not call in on your way home, they're off the raod where, south western vehicle auctions are, well, in that area anyway!

Just called alloy magic in Poole, they are going to have a look tonight, as its the sort of thing they deal with.

Keep you posted.
