Agree with ian on this one- Mintex 1155s squeal like pigs around town, and grind like crazy if they've not been bedded in properly. but they do the business on track, where you don't notice the noise. by comparison, the DS2500s are near- silent.

performance wise the DS2500s have a (very) slight edge but cost a bit more than the mintex. they tend to wear a lot faster though, although they dust much less. you pays your money ......

have come across cracking occassionally, but usually when the pads have been handled roughly, or dropped, and the cracks have been apparent prior to fitting. never come across any that have cracked in situ. could the fitter have scored the pads to prevent glazing, and cut them a bit too deep?

hope this helps,
simon

Help! My brakes are squeeling all the time! The noise gets louder when turning left or right! The brakes are 4-pot godspeeds on an Sti with original wheels. There doesn't appear to be any rubbing against the wheels. The brakes themselves work fine- it's just a bit annoying! Especially with the windows down! Any comments will be greatley appreciated!

Hi,

I have got the very same problem, except it got alot worse recently, I'm running the standard calipers at the momment, But take your brake disks out and check all around the edge where the pad meterial meets the metal backing plate, I found a rather large crack where the brake material is coming away from the backing plate going along top and bottom of the pads, so the pad material along one edge is on constant contact with the disc.

Here is a pic of the problem i had: http://www.fallenfromgrace.co.uk/pads/brakepads2.jpg

Might be worth just checking your pads!!!

hope you've changed your pads............that's fairly scary!!
alyn - as performance
p.s. the squeal is sometimes simply down to the friction material that you use, and a potential mismatch between this and the disc material..........

It does seem the Mintex can squeel when you do a lot of town use only to stop when you are giving the brakes some stick .. We can now supply the Ferodo DS2500 pads to use with this kit which I have been told be the suppliers that they do not have any problems with squeeling . Cheers Ian

Cool

Hmmm, I really should sort my password out! Ah well, 2 accounts! ah well :P

Yeah, I should have replacement pads sent to me today to replace the cracked ones! Has anyone else experienced this cracking with the mintex 1144 pads?

Does anyone know why my brakes have started rubbing only when I corner.I am running DS2500's on the front which have been silent up till now. I suspected wheel bearings at first but the dealer says not.

Ditto Tinhead! Thats what my brakes do. They squeek slightly in a straight line, but loads when I corner!

I recently had squeeling probs.
But bought the stick on shim compounds that fit on the brake pads.
Dont squeel any more.
