Hi all,
Whilst away from home at the weekend (on an Sti UK 7) I got a puncture in the offside rear tyre, took it to a tyre place and at first was told it was repairable (screw through tread), was then told that it wasn't. There was a 'rim' around the inside corner between the tread and the sidewall, was told that this meant that the tyre was kn*ckered.

The place rang around and the only tyre they could get same day (remember 150 miles from home - needed to get back!) was a PZero. Notwithstanding the price they charged me (bend over sir this won't hurt a bit...) they said that I would be OK changing only this tyre - which goes against what I thought I understood from reading this group. The car was still running the original OEM Bridgestone RE040s.

They said that:-

The old tyre still had around 5 mil of tread, whilst the new would only have around 7 so the circumference would be OK, and

That the difference in tread pattern would have no impact.

Is this advice sound?

Thanks
Nick

PS: This means that I only 'used' 2 mil of tread in a year

Arghh... noticed a nice dint in the alloy too.

What a cr*p weekend. I assume there's nothing I can do about it?
