I just checked the tyres on the front of my my98, and the size is 225. I though all of them were 205? The rears are 205, is this ok/normal??

cheers

Certainly not normal!

Are they standard 16" wheels? 205/50 x 16" would be correct.

Thats what i thought, the tyre is surely wider than supposed to be, unfortunately it was changed months ago and I haven't really looked at it over the winter - only recently Its only wider, no greater in height, but does look 'oversize' compared to the rears. I suppose there might be more traction at the front, though

your rolling diameter will be out by a certain % and will affect the reading you get on your speedo. lets hope it over reads for your sake!!

cheers

If both front tyres are bigger than the rears, then it also wont be doing your centre diff any good.
They MUST be the same all round.

4 wheel drive = all tyres the same width, you must get some strange handling and a lot of tram lining m8..

that's what i was worried about, the fact that it is awd and with different tyre size - but will width alone, not diameter make a difference? I am concerned about the diff, though

Does not sound good. If the tyres are the same profile but the width is different then the rolling diameter will be different as well. Get 'em swapped ASAP.

What are the exact numbers on the side of the tyres, both front and rear? ie- width and profile.

225/50/16 on front, and the rears are 205/50
