Diff wind-up... or just a wind-up?
#1
I need to replace two rear tyres now, and two others in about 3,000 miles. I will be changing from Bridgestone 010 to Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, (thanks to all the good advice on the "search") but have been advised by Protyre that I really should change all 4 tyres due to a potential problem with Diff wind-up…. doesn’t mean much to me – but is it good advice?
If I replace just two now, I guess it is best to fit on the front axle.. would that be correct?
Advice appreciated – thanks.
Roger.

No....
Fit new tyres to rear other wise with greater breaking force and increased grip at front you could end up in dodgy situation. This is advice from local tyre-fitter who I've gone to for years and I know he knows his stuff.............. I think
It is recommended to change all 4 and I've stuck with this but pairs (fronts or rears) should be pretty safe.
Cheers

Oh dear, not this again.....
Protyre really should know better!
Axle/transmission wind up is maybe an issue in a Series 1 Land Rover with mechanical diffs and locked hubs. It isn't an issue with an Impreza with a viscous coupling centre diff which automatically adjusts for differences in front/rear axle speeds
