Question

Hi

I've been offered a set of front Brembo brakes from STi 8 for £800 (delivery mileage). Are they any good? Any comments if this is a good price?

Current car: UK MY00 with std 4-pots

Other options I've been considering: Prodrive/Alcon 4-pots or TSL 6-pot Hi-Spec kit (both are about £1,300 plus fitting).

Thanks for your comments!

Other than they will require the brackets made up, they should be very good.

They are also very large so you may need new wheels to clear them.

Got wheels with plenty of clearance.

What about the special brackets? These brakes were offered by a Subaru dealer and he made it sound like a 'plug-and-play' option for MY00. Is this not the case?

What worries me is that they are coming off the car and will be replaced by the Prodrive/Alcom kit. Why? Both are 4-pots with 330mm disk. Would they perform differently??? How would they compare to TSL's 6-pots?

Thanks for your comments!

According to MIke Wood at Prodrive (who *may* want to sell these things ) the Alcons are much better. I have Alcons on our 'old' STI and the Brembos on our blobby8 and to be honest I'm impressed with the Brems but haven't used them on track or in real anger..the Alcons are however fantastic...not sure I'd pay to upgrade the blob though...for you I'd say the Alcons probably aren't worth the extra £500...bear in mind that if you go with them you've limited your disc replacements...OEM discs for the brembos and alcons are very expensive...

Good point about replacement disks.

How will the Brembos compare with TSL's 6 pots?
