Will shortly be needing new front discs and pads for my RB5. What do people recommend as a good alternative to the Subaru items?
The car is only used on the road.
Most important - my journey to work is very short through country lanes so competition-spec pads which take time to warm up would not be ideal.
Thanks

Steve

Pagid grooved discs and RS 42-1 pads. I've got them on mine and am well impressed with them, much better from cold than standard but don't wilt at the sight of a country road. Got them from Performance Braking in Monmouth, 01600 713117, much cheaper than standard replacement parts as well. I'm nothing to do with PB other than being a very happy customer.

I've now covered 12k on the pads, including 200+ miles round Spa and the pads are still going strong, so wear rate isn't an issue either.

HTH

are that the blue brake pads, rs42 ???
I have them with grooved prodrive discs and better fluid, brake power is excellent, no fade.
But never tested it on a track, maybe in a month or so onto the 'ring'...

The RS42-1 is a black pad, RS42 is blue. Think the RS42-1's are more of a 'standard' replacement pad that can withstand higher temperatures better, whereas the RS42 is more fastroad / track biased. A friend has the RS42's on his MY00 and round Anglesey circuit a couple of weeks ago they were fantastic. None existant wear as well.

Question

What does this set-up cost from PB (fully fitted)?
Cheers

Certainly is. Let's just say the price is *very* good when compared to anyone else, especially the subaru specialists....

Ask for Jill or John and say you've seen comments on scoobynet about them by either me or Andy, I'm sure then the price will be the same as we paid...

Thumbs up

my RB5 is on Pagid discs and blue pads - before that I had the prodrive 330mm upgrade - the pagid kit is better, for everyday use, and the odd country lane rampage.....

Midland Impreza have an offer on these at the moment - superb prices!!!!

Thumbs up

My RB5 also has EBC group N discs + red stuff pads. Again, they take time to warm up but once warm stopping power is great and they don't fade. I also have braided hoses fitted and would recommend getting this done as well.

I have the GodSpeed 335mm Big disc kit on the front of mine! I have pictures but cant upload them to turbosport for some reason

The brakes make a huge difference, really are a nice bit of kit.

I'm with Mike there !

Have the same setup, Pagid Grooved and Pagid Blue pads and I've never suffered any fade on track or on "spirited" country lane drives.

No warm up of pads required either

Also purchased from Performance Braking and can only compliment them on a fantastic service
