17" versus 18" Wheels
#1
Forgive my ignorance on this one.
Could someone please explain to me the benefits of 18's over 17's?
The first thing that springs to mind is overall appearence in wheel arch. I gather tyre choice would make significant improvements on either in terms of grip, but, do the handling characteristics improve due to size????
Thanks

There are quite a few downsides, but 18s have a lower sidewall which flexes less on cornering. Sharper, more responsive steering. Apart from cosmetics, that is the only advantage.
But you'll get the biggest improvement by fitting top rubber like Goddyear F1 or Toyo T1-S.
Richard.

There is no benefit in 18 inch wheels from a driving experience POV. 18 inch wheels are bigger thus heavier (thus reducing performance, be it acceleration, grip or braking) and cost more than 17 inch wheels.
As for Toyo and Goodyear tyres, they're only good on wet roads.
