Does using the abs wear out any components more quickly?

Which sort of translates to "i don't know how abs works"! 
It's just that having played on a hill yesterday evening, the abs was kicking in quite a lot, as you'd expect. And it's not subtle - it feels as if there's a lot of heavy-handed mechanical stuff going on to activate it.
So does it wear anything out more quickly than "normal" braking?
