What is the best big brake upgrade?????
#2
Gonna upgrade my brakes and like everything else for my scooby there is a huge choice available. I want awesome breaks for fast road use (upto legal limit) NOT. May do a track day some time, but i have not done one yet.
My choice of brakes are.
1. 4 or 6 pot AP Racing (developed for subaru)
2. Prodrive conversion.
3. Scoobysport 330mm kad brake upgrade.
The cheapest is the prodrive, followed by the AP's then scoobysport Kad.
I would rather hear from peeps who have tried the above mentioned brakes or similar products.
TY and keep it real.

330 scoobysport KAD kit I believed to be superb!! Went to france and tested the beasts out they performed happily all day on track and got us there and back.
Personally felt ap's too sharp for the road, even when applied gently, and my 372's now - well I can do stoppies!

I had the prodrive kit fitted, which I have now taken off.....
The kit looked great, braked better, but was complete overkill for my usage.......
I have it in a box in the garage if you want to make me an offer!!!

Most of my driving unfortunately is now motorways. The kit is great but to be honest works best under heavy usage. I intended to do some track days but never got round to it, now have a girlfriend who is scared to death of the thought of me going near a racing track in my own car..... so...... for the price of replacement discs it just isn't worth using the prodrive kit.
I'd be guessing at how many miles the kit has done - between 15 and 20 thousand would be my guess (been on the car more than a year!!), but, much of it motorway. The first set of pads still have some meat on them, but if you want the kit, I'd be inclined to match it up with some new pads. The mechanic who swapped the prodrive kit off the car for my old standard kit reckoned the discs would easily last through another set of pads.
Be sad to see them go, but not sad to avoid paying for new discs when these eventually wear out!!
Oops nearly forgot - yes its the 330mm alcon caliper (prodrive badged) kit from an official Subaru dealer. Cost me £1800 when I bought it, but I believe they are a lot cheaper now!!!

I did a lot of research into my brake upgrade a few months ago, decided on the AP 6pot. I was expecting them to be too grippy for the road, but this is not the case. They are very progressive which is great. I think the prodrive ones are overprised, and only an option really when u have warranty left.
I hear the KAD ones are good too, but didnt find many people with experiences

The prodrive kit will fit under 17's but if I remember rightly I think they won't fit behind certain patterns of wheel.......
If anyones interested feel free to make an offer. The kits better on someones car than gathering dust in my shed.

I've got the big AP 4 pot kit with 330mm Discs, imho they are perfect for the road, but for the track I'd definetely want the 6 pots.

Thanx for all of your posts it has been a great help.
Someone suggested to me that mine have glazed over and i might be able to get them back, working efficiently, as i have the pagid 87 groove discs with mintex 1144 pads on at the moment.
I have also realised that i need to get some upgrades to my MY99 scooby as i have the 4 pot calipers but with standard 15" alloys, so i will need to upgrade the wheels too.
Gonna cost a pretty penny, hope SANTA gets me something nice for christmas LMAO.
Anthony feel free to purchase the Prodrive kit and it was nice of you to take second place and wait for me 1st, unlike some queue jumpers.
Anyway thank you all again for your replies and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I've got the ap 6 pots, and they are good, but not as good as i was expecting. The abs seems to come in way too easily, so you don't get much of a chance to see what the brakes are really capable of.
I think that the abs may come in early as i have p-zeros on, which seem to be about as grippy as an oily fish.

I will second Dowsers recommendation of movit brakes.
Baiscally we're talking porsche claipers, discs and pads. Very yummy!
The kit I've got (4m6) comprises of the monobloc calipers as found on the Porsche 911 GT3, plus GT3 pads, and then Porsche 911 Turbo discs.
The price is about the same as for an AP 6 pot kit, and they are awesome.
I've yet to trackday the car, but for on road use they are great.
Plus they do look rather good. Note that you would need 17 inch wheels, and possibly might need to run spacers (I do, 15mm each front wheel)
Why did I get them over APs? well, I wanted something different, and they are certainly that.
Other kits to consider would be offerings from Hi-Spec and Godspeed. I know a few people who really rate the Hi-Spec 4-pot and 6-pot kits.
