Well I ended up going for Tarox 44 groove disks and was recommended (by Graham Goode) to mate them with a mintex pad. Not sure how this arrangement is going to turn out but was concerned that the pads have a disclaimer about "USE ON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAY" and that they should not be used for this purpose. Has anyone ever heard of this ???? Will they be ok ? will they damage my disks ??

im running them same mintex pads (evo 6 , prone to warping) was a little concerened at first , but after fitting them and beding them in (thats a good laugth, 100mph-20mph around 4 times till they are really hot and smelling ) they have the same level of bite as standard (brembros in my case) but once a little heat is in them awersome , can now get wheels to lock (before abs kicks in ) on a dry road , litle dusty mind but not a problem if you wash car regular , comes off easy .
Dafydd

the bedding in info is on net some where ? if you cant find it i will try and dig out my link for you

My concern is that I'm not gonna knacker my disks ! If they've sold me racing pads and fast road disks say, am I gonna be destroying the disk, or am I being a bit dramatic ????

They seem like a quality disk and were 200 notes so its not as if they're crap !

Any uprated pads will wear out your discs quicker than OE pads. 1155's aren't too unkind to discs. I think they put a "no road use" disclaimer on them because to work at their best they need heat in them, ie don't work well from cold.

The Pagid Blues havre this disclaimer too... I think its cos they dont bite so well on cold disks - as long as you are aware this 'feature' then it's OK IMHO...

Well. I've fitted them today and everything seems fine. They're not biting particularly better than the S*it I took off, but I guess they need to bed in etc. before I notice a substantial diff ?? Either way at least I have some proper brakes now.

Thanks for the advice guys !

Has anyone ever had a go at getting the calipers back to former glory. I wanted to give them a good clean up and maybe re-paint the "SUBARU" mark in white ! Can't find any HIGH TEMP white paint and wasn't sure what was best for cleaning brakes

Any ideas ?

Don't wanna enter any concourse comps. buy may as well make it nice whilst my hands are dirty !

I painted my 4 pots with black high temp paint berfore I fitted them. The "Subaru" was painted red (cos i'm a tart)using hammerite. Its still there and hasn't discoloured or anything.

Soz to be a bore - but the insurance company could look at these type of pads and claim the cause of any accident was due to your breaks being "competition only"... guy from greenlight insurance told me! So take care!!

Jza - you've just answered the question that was forming in my mind given the knowledge that insurance companies are renowned for not liking this sort of thing

Cheers,
Nick.
