On a classic its either 215 40 17 or 205 45 17

I run the 215 40 17s with no issues

If you have a uk car then 205's as the 215's foul the plastic arch strip , if you have an import the the 215's fit without any fouling issues .

Intereszting! Have an STi V - so the 215's would fit, but would the lower 40 profile on these further harden the ride and make the car a bit more skittish compared to the 45's? More grip on bumpy stuff is pref for me!

I know a lot of people that have 215s on a UK car and they don't rub, i have a Jap import with 205s but used to have 215s... again no problems. Why would it matter between UK and Jap.... as far as i can see there's no difference .

Tony.

I've never heard of 215s rubbing the rear arches on a car, not unless the offset was really low (45 or less), in which case it's more the wheels being at fault than the tyres.

215/40x17 is actually closer in % terms to the 205/50x16 size fitted as standard, than 205/45x17.

You have much more choice in tyres (and at sensible prices) with the 215/40x17 size, than the 205/45x17 (mostly P Zeros, and budget range tyres).

Literally thousands of owners have run with the 215/40x17 tyre size without any problems at all. These would be my preference.

Great info, thanks John!

Ronnie is still giving me the run-around (unitentionally) on those Oz Turinis you pointed me to, and I have just found Gold Superleggera's for £600 and need to decide on the tyre..

(yes £600 brand new - yipeeeeeeeee)

Every car uk car I've been in with 215/40x17 tyres has had issues with the tyres rubbing the rear arches , when they changed to 205/45 's they didn't rub . Only going on my personal experience .

Never ever heard that Big Bear and am running 215/40/17 Toyo T1-S on my UK Spec Dutch Import with no problems. Much better than the standard Pirelli 205/45/17 rubber. The extra width of the tyre protects your alloys that little bit better as well.

215 with no problems on my lowered Scoob. Much cheaper than 205, anything upto £25 a tyre saving.
