Question

Had Alcons fitted to my P1 when I got it (2nd hand, W reg, 8000m) and was given the standard callipers and discs in a box which I'm selling on to a friend.
Had a look at them today and wondered if this was normal....the "inner" pistons look all rusted up and unused whilst the outer ones are all shiny and obviously well used...

Inner piston....

Outer piston.....

I know not a lot about how these things work really - do the outer pistons do all the work? The other calliper looked pretty similar. I had thought that maybe the inner the pistons had seized up?? Dunno.

The discs have a worn and grooved strip on the inner surface...

Thumbs up

I'll give that a try tomorrow - thing that made me wonder was that all 4 inner pistons (ie. on both calipers) look all rusty and nasty and I don't suppose all 4 would've seized.....?
As I said the car has only done 8000m in 2 years so must've been sitting around idle for a fair bit
