I assume this fits into the category of "Undisclosed Shiny Brake Component"

Have found a service manual so I'll see if that tells me anything, then I'll look at the leaky compression fittings to see if there's anything that can be done.

Please stop me if that sounds daft...

Thanks all. It seems co connect to some brake pipes in a horribly complex way. The result of leaving the thing wrapped in tissue (while not using the car!!) is that the leak appears to be coming from one of the bottom pipe "compression like" fittings.
