Pootling about around town yesterday, I rolled down the window to have a chat to someone and heard a god-awful squeaking coming from the front of the car I've no idea how long it's been doing it as I rarely have the windows down.
It's a kind of rotational squealing that disappears when I apply the brakes but comes back straight after. There's still a good 3 or 4mm of pad left on the fronts, so it's not a low pad indicator thingummy. With that, I've now exhausted my technical knowledge
Any clues, before I book it in to be looked at ?

Try jet washing the wheels and calipers.
It may just be a build up of brake dust
If that does't cure it then book it in!
It's worth a try (£2 for a jet wash or £40+ an hour)
Iain.

I seem to remember something about the brakes squealing when they are in need of replacement (in the handbook I think). 3-4mm pad depth doesn't seem like an awful lot to me. I'd change the pads anyway.
