#### Front disc renewal under warranty.... NOT !!!!!
#1
Hi all
I have a March '02 WRX Euro import with f#cked discs.
I took the car in for its 7.5k service and the dealer reported front discs badly cracked.
Following procedure they reported to IM, who in turn contacted the supply dealer for authorisation.
Got a phone call today from my local dealer to say that the claim has been turned down as they are considered a "wear & tear" item !
Surely this cant be right? After 7.5k and six months they should still be "fit for purpose" right?
Anyone else had a claim go through on front discs?
Tempted to take things further under European consumer laws but have been thinking of upgading the brakes anyway.
Any views on this?

PS. Still glad I went Euro import and saved £5k, that'll pay for some serious upgrades!

I think they changed the policy for the new shape cars, the old shape ones also had the clutches covered, this has now changed for the new cars too, but like the dealer said, its a wear and tear item, it may have cracked due to you heating them up and braking all the time (and we know they are cr@p anyway) so just go out and get some others from somewhere like scoobyworld, scoobymania or scoobysport that are much superior to the standard item and stop you better (and last longer )

Like the clutch, if the brakes look like they have been subject to abuse IM won't cover them.
I found this out when my clutch went (UK MY01), it was abuse rather than a fault so no deal. My dealer argued on my behalf but still a very strong "No" from IM.
If you are talking about the TSL Hi-spec 6 pots and 335mm disc then I have a set on the car now. Very nice after bedding in and the discs can cope with higher temperatures than many of the others.
To tease you...

Er Mattel, not sure who fitted these, but the discs are on the wrong way round.
The groove at the outer edge should contact the pad first.
They probably work well in reverse though
How are the bruises?

Ask the dealerhship/IM for a ful explaination as to why they will not replace them - It may be down to non-gen pads or if they know you have done a few track days. If so then unlucky!
They mayt fall back on the non-gen pads caused the disks to go in which case you are screwed - IMHO
7.%k on std pads and no track days - i am sure that they would relpace them, if not i would do them under fit for purpose, although the disk does wear it should last longer than 7.5K!

Pete,
That is the way HiSpec actually recommended they are fitted, it is even in their brochure and on the website.
I checked this out after your post just in case I get banned from "helping out" in workshops in the future.
The bruises are okay the ones I gained after the last game finished are the betters ones and even they aren't bad. I didn't seem to get one from the "he's behind the mound" escapade!
How did you fair on the brusing front?
Mark

Information about the brakes is here.
I am not sure if they would fit or not to be honest trying giving Paul (Trouser a ring) on 0115 937 7200. He will be able to tell you for sure.

350 BHP.... I WISH !!!!!
Standard apart from filter and back box so more like 220 BHP
I have been running with Ferodo DS2500 pads and <cough> have done a couple of track days Had the brakes REALLY hot so its not surprising the discs are kn@ckered. Dont mind the warranty refusal if its normal, just didnt want fobbing off.
I found the DS2500 pads excellent, NO fade and they have NOT worn the discs, just cooked them!
Anyone tried TSL's 6pot 335mm kit? At £1375 inc vat it looks V good value, and they come with DS2500 pads
RoadyT
PS. Dealer wasn't bothered about me running the DS2500's, they are happy to turn a blind eye to mods, unless I try to claim for a blown engine after serious engine modding!
