I've read through the other Speedlines post, but those wheels look different to my RB5 ones.

Anyone know if the Alcons or APR's fit under them?

Dealer told me no and wanted me to buy 4 new wheels/tyres. I'm not convinced.

APs will fit... 4pots.. for sure...
6pots... probably.

Alcons... will fit I am sure...

others say go cheaper and just do the disks.
I gone for the prodrive ones, as u know.
i reckon prodrive ones will look good on ur rb5...
and doubt u will warp them - seems thats not done by using them but by misuse of them (left foot braking, long trailing braking, no cooldown / warm up).
also designed for the scooby... correct back / front balance?

No haven't decided yet; got 500 miles (2 weeks) at most to decide. Unless I win the lottery I really don't fancy splashing out £1500 on brakes. I can think of better ways to spend that money at the moment; trip to Oz, Skiing holiday, etc..

AF Nobles quoted me £1200+VAT for the Alcons. They said my 4-pots were worth £150+VAT, so that comes out at £1233.75. What sort of deal did you get?

if you only have the 4-pot calipers to sell (ie discs/pads dead) then you would probably get 180 on here for them quite easily.

For the money you're looking at you could get a better setup than the alcons, at least when it comes to replacing the alcon discs that is, at about £350 a pair.

www.hispecbigbrakes.co.uk do their own 4 pot alloy calipers in kits with 2 piece discs. discs cost about £70 each to replace.

www.raldes.co.uk do a wilwood kit, bit cheaper still, again with good value discs, but not got dust sealed pistons in calipers, so need servicing once a year or so.

www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk also do some alloy caliper kits using either brembo or wilwood calipers, not seen much of those kits from them, can't really comment. The brembo/porche kits seem like t good value at about £900.

The hi-spec and wilwood are good products, both less than £1200. My preference would be hi-spec caliper and wilwood discs ( a combo hispec do I believe)

and the 16" wheels too (with just legal proxies)

 

4 pots in good nick with part (ie not very) worn discs/pads seem to go for £250-£300 depending on what's about.

I think I'd rather stick with a well-known name such as Alcon or AP-Racing. People have pointed out their potential resale value when I come to sell my car.

got gold P1 17" wheels on now

disks are pretty worn - front pads are no bad.

Have said to someone that ill give them wheels n brakes for 330.
I think thats quite cheap

Wilwood are a well known make, but mainlyin the US where they supply Nascar and touring car teams.

4pot kit with 324mm x 32mm 2 piece disc £712.80+vat
6pot kit with 324mm x 32mm 2 piece disc £1042.0 +vat (billet calipers)

I think you are less likely to lose money spending around £900 (with pads etc) than £1800.

Movit www.movit.de are another good supplier I forgot about. Kit using monobloc calipers (1 piece, not 2 bolted together) with drilled Porsche discs, hoses and pads is something like £1600, I have an email with quotes if you're interested.

loads of brake options

i kinda did a snap decision - but am sticking to the prodrive ones.

the 1 piece disk/bell is a theoretical (sp) weakness... as is the weight... but ive spoken to someone who has them on his 22B.
Hes done over 1.5k miles on track on same disks - and over 20k road miles.

I reckon Prodrive will be worth a bit in trade-in (i know of someone who got 600 back for them)

APs might get the same / more - but seems to me that using the same 4pot caliper for 300ish and 330ish mm disks is a bit of a compromise? the AP 6pots are meant to lack a bit in feel...

loads to choose from tho...
the deciding factor for me was the prodrive name to go with the rest (even more of a tart? )

Ozzy, I would keep hold of the OE calipers etc so you can sell the Big brakes when it comes time to sell.
