just gona upgrade my brakes, but been informed that 4pots (even Subaru ones) might have problems under my speedlines (17" Prodive jobbies)

can anyone tell me if they have had any joy with bigger brakes under theses ?? (in particular the Billet4pots ala TSL/Hi-Spec?)

dnb,

not wanting Subaru 4pots.. but Hi-Spec billet Monster 4's ...
should be arriving any day now.... they say you need 17" wheels, but nothing about specific wheels!!!
now I'm really miffed - coz they are going to have to go straight back (if they'll take them).

There's no "might" about it. Subaru 4 pots will not fit under those wheels unless you have some 7 mm spacers made up. (I wouldn't recomend that)

I have a set of 4 pots living in the hallway because of this problem, and a set of OZ superTs in the lounge awaiting tyres to solve the problem

Not sure about other makes of brake. Provided the calipers are a lot thinner they could work, but I doubt it. (I'm always happy to be proved wrong about this )

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

The Subaru 4 pots are fairly bulky and wide. So anything thinner may work. However, you will have even less chance if you are going for bigger discs (as I suspect you are), as the spokes taper inwards towards the outside of the rims.

You could find a set of second hand or new 17" rims and sell your speedlines. They will sell on here quite well.

I said the same thing.

IIRC RB5 wheels (or the gold Jap only versions) look similar and at least fit the Subaru 4 pots, so ought to take your brake upgrade.

Angry

unless someone can 'give' me some gold jap versions, then the brakes are going back - cant afford to change the wheels & the brakes .. that's stupid .. why would they make those wheels too small .. AGGGHHHHH

not happy now >

I think you might be okay

I had some subaru 4 pots and they are quite bulky, whereas the hispec calipers look much slimmer in the pictures. It's the 4-pot caliper sides that catch on the inside of the spokes, rather then just a diameter issue.

To check, take off a wheel and put the hispec disc inside it with the caliper on.

Don't worry if they don't fit, you have the option of getting hispec to replace them with the "race" version which are slimmer again.

Fingers crossed.

Paul,

still trying to get to Hi-Spec, as they are busy people. and work today is manic!

Have measured the original rotor to wheel & it's about 51mm .
hi-spec say the're caliper is about 52mm (he's gona check).

other than that ... it's wheel spacers!

interesting about the race caliper, will ask - they should swap them out .. just I wanted to change them this weekend as I have a few days off...

will let you all know how I get on .. and if they arrive I will try what u suggest Paul .. but even TSL say you cant without a spacer !

Steve (in a really grumpy mood!)

right...here we go.

did start to right it all out - but it's far too confusing...
basicly the discs are 11mm more recessed than standard...

but due to caliper width, there is obviously more caliper.

talking to Jeff, a very helpful man, we rekon it
a) might JUST fit but 1 or 2 mm
b) might just miss by 1 or 2 mm

if it misses , then I'm gona try a washer under each bolt and see if that cures it . if it works, then that's only gona be a mm or 2, and a spacer of that degree cant hurt - surely?

much better & damn sight less expense & hasstle than changing the wheels, tyres etc etc etc.

Race caliper will fit EASILY. but the pistons are not booted - as they aren't really made for the road!

but we'll see....

will let you know a.s.a. I get then and take a wheel off and dump them (VERY VERY carefully) inside the wheel!

Steve (feeling more optomistic now!)
