EBC Pads
#1
I have a MY00 can anyone give me a bit of info on EBC Green and Red brake pads please:
I have standard MY00 discs - will these pads be OK with them?
Has anyone used them - what are your opinions?
Cheers

Greens should be ok but reds will kill your standard discs. There is no guarantee the greens won't warp them either though - depends on how you use them (I had greens, warped two sets of EBC's own discs and only reds didn't but they were utter carp IMHO).
As Claudius says - you can't buy a worse brake for a Scoob IMHO, you get what you pay for............

I had the green pads and disks fitted a while ago; the local garage refused to fit them without the disks (grooved and dimpled) to go with them for the reason that they'd mess up the original disks.
Haven't had any problems for the moment, but I don't think they'd hold up very well under hard use. I haven't noticed much improvement in braking either, though they make loads more noise.
I think Steve Breen had them on his old car and got brake fade with them.
The reds suck for road use, apparently, needing a good stop before they're warmed up sufficiently.

I bought some EBC reds a month or so ago on recommendation from a mate who uses them on his stock hatch racer but since i handed over the cash i've only heard bad things about them. Gulp!
I've only done about 150 miles so far and they're not properly bedded in yet so i can't really comment on their full performance but they're gradually improving and now give about the same stopping power as the standard pads in normal driving. I was ultimately hoping for a bit more retardation but its mainly the fade resistance i'm after as the standard Scooby pads are hopeless after a bit of a blast down a good road.

I put EBC Reds on the front and Blacks on the back 13 days ago and took them off today and refitted the Ferodos. The Reds are completely sh@gged after only around 1000 miles (of which around 30 were on a track evening), Blacks were OK.
Now, I'm not hard on brakes, normally getting 30k-40k miles from a set of standard pads, including the odd track day, so these EBCs were the worst pads I've ever experienced. No confidence in them whatsoever on the road, they needed to be really hot to bite at all. On the track, their performance varied so much depending on temperature that the braking points changed every lap - impossible to drive with any consistency.
The Ferodos I've put back on have already done around 50 (wet) track miles and 2000 road miles and look almost like new. Braking confidence is back already

Hi Guys,
If you speak to E.B.C they will tell you not to use Reds on the road as they dont get hot enough to work properly, I,ve got Greens and Spotties on my WRX and have had no probs at all, although they are better when they are warmed up,may be I,m not driving quick enough. One final point, if you use Reds on a track day always take a spare set as they are designed to wear very quickly as race pads das I look after a pair of F3000 cars for my employers who compete in the National Sprint Champs.

If the Greens were half the price of other uprated pads then there might be a case for them, but I just don't get them. Perhaps for lightweight hot hatches but not bigger cars

EBC recommend Reds only on the front for Impreza's. This is what EBC themselves told Tyres Northampton when I was getting mine done. And reds are carp IMHO.
