Unhappy

Yesterday I changed the 2 pot calipers on my 94 WRX to shiny new 4 pot calipers, new discs and new pads. After fitting both sides I bled the whole system. My problem is that without the engine running the brakes are there but still spongy. When I start the engine the pedal goes straight to the floor. I can pump some pressure into it but nowhere near enough. I have now bled 1.5 litres of fluid through the system both with the engine running and without but I cannot get the brakes to work.

Have I missed something here? Can anyone advise me what I need to do now???

You can phone me on and I'll call you back to save your bill. I need to get to work tomorrow and at the moment it looks like I will have to walk the 15 miles!

PLEASE HELP.

Put the cap back on top of the fluid reservoir

Joking, but could happen... There must be a leak or air in there somewhere. Have you bleeded the brakes in the right order to get all the air out?

I cannot see a bleed nipple at the top of the caliper. There is on at the bottom. What order do I need to bleed them in and is it usual to have pressure without the engine running and then to loose it when started?

Cheers.

I am not too familiar with the scooby brakes, that's why I thought a brake specialist like BG might be of help to you .

It is normal for the pressure to drop slightly when you start the engine, since the brakes are assisted (you wouldnt be strong enough to press the pedal down if they werent).

DONT drive your car unless you have LOTS of space in case you do not get brake force. Just a word of caution. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Calipers are on the wrong sides!!! The nipple should be at the top (air rises in the fluid)

Don't feel to bad, I know a mechanic who fitted his 4 pots upside down!!!

Cheers Caudius. I'll make a couple of calls tomorrow and it will definatly be staying where it is until it's sorted. Sound like I'll have to get it trailered to a dealer for sorting.....more expense on top of the £700 I just shell out for the brakes. Scooby's don' tyou just love 'em?

Thanks for the guidance.

Dyney,Cheers again for the advice. Just go back in. Been out. Swapped the calipers around and re bled them and the brakes are now perfect. Again, thanks very much for the help. I really appreciate it. Speak to you again soon.

oh thanks, for this post. i spent a good whole day on the brakes, and realised now i've put them the wrong way, after bleeding the system 3 times! i'm a plonker, but the brakes i got hold of were probably seized!

looks lioke i'm going to have to give it a try.

I know the feeling. I bled over 1.5 litres of fluid through before Dyney put me straight. I am currently hanging my head in shame. However I am sure that this is a mistake that I will never make again. Good luck.
