When do you decide to replace tyres - all mine have different degrees of wear but overall I guess there are different options
Not really a big deal but I've come across a great deal on 4 new tyres and I just need to convince myself that I'm ready before shelling out
- When they are slick
- When they reach the legal minimum 1.6mm(how do you measure this accurately)
- When they feel like they are going off
- When they look like they are going off
- When they hit the manufacturers suggested minimum tread depth
- When the tread wear indicators are showing - although the Bridgestones seem to have two sets-one looks generous, the other looks tiny.
- When they only work well when it's dry
- Wait until they are melted on a track day and then upgrade to 18"
- none of the above

IMHO I would change them before they get to 2mm left. Have driven cars in snow / heavy rain with only just legal tyres and they are scarily bad. Will never let the scoob get down to that state.
Might be worth keeping the old ones to use as slicks for (dry) trackday use if you're going to upgrade to 18s.
Perhaps that justifys your excuse?

like the other reply said , dont wait till the 1.6mm legal limit , they just will have no effect in the wet at all , i changed my brigstones at around 3mm because i spun the car on two different rounder bouts in the wet and car was horrible to drive in the wet

Conversely I have just replaced my Toyos, all four of which were down to the treadwear indicators. They were fine in the wet, even in the flash floods we've had in the past couple of weeks

Good to hear.
My Toyos are getting close to the tread wear indicators, and I was planning on changing them then.
Thankfully it's a Sport, so spinning on roundabouts shouldn't be an issue
