I posted something similar to this before the recent work to the BBS but it seems to have got lost.

Anyway, just about to order a new Type UK, not interested in gold wheels. Thinking about either dust coating the gold standard wheels or upgrading to the 18 Crystal Titanium ones sold by Prodrive. Has anyone got experience of either? I realise the ride may be crunchier with the 18" wheels but have a DEP on my current MY00 so not too bothered, and would happily take the increase in traction/grip....

Any views would be welcome.

Cheers

Had the standard wheels powdercoated in anthracite on my STi (see below) I'm very happy with the results
I've also driven an STi with the 18's on and to be honest the ride didn't seem any worse than the standard wheels and rather average OE Bridgestones. See if you can get a drive in a dealer demo car with 18's before you make up your mind.
The 18's look fantastic and there is also a new Prodrive 18" wheel coming out that looks very nice
Powdercoating the standard wheels is a good cheap alternative if you don't want the gold wheels can't quite afford the 18's. Hope this helps

Andy,

Thanks for your reply, very nice wheels mate. Have you seen what the Prodrive 18" wheels look like?, I would ideally like to see them before shelling out £1000 (as that's what I've heard they cost).

Cheers

I agree with the above comments. I recently drove a dealers car with the 18s and it was fine, not much different to the 17s in terms of ride quality. I have ordered the Prodrive 18s on my Type UK Prodrive that is coming next week.

I was considering putting some lowering springs on also (Power Engineering who use Eibach). Has anyone had experience of this and how it affects the ride/handling. And does anyone recommend any other spring sets? Cheers.

Andy H - wheels look cool in anthracite!
