locking wheel nuts

Morning all,
got my new wheels waiting in the garage for me to fit them
but can I get the soddin locking wheel nuts off the existing wheels? nope! 
The small key (that fits onto the lock nut) is burring and distorting all over the place....Grrrr!
Anyone else got these fitted? Anyone else tried undoing them after 6 months of running? I would have been screwed if I'd ever had a puncture on the motorway..
Off to Halfords at lunchtime to see what they can do....(I bought the wheels nuts from them ages ago).
