Front Tyre Wear on MY01's.... Is this a trend???
#1
Hi All,
Just had to replace two front tyres (after discovering much to my surprise) that they had worn down to bare rubber on the inside 2 inches on both sides.
Kwik fit did a deal on a pair of GoodYear F1's and the guy who fitted them tells me that he has seen similar wear on other MY01 Scoobys.
Anyone else experienced this?
Anyone had geometry set up to correct a MY01 tyre wear problem?
Mak.

Makalu,
I have had this problem. You need to get to somewhere where you can get a 4 wheel alignment done, else you are wasting your dosh on new tyres. Try either TSL motorsport in Nottinghamshire or Autolign in Northamptonshire. Don't skimp, get this done.
Cheers

Thx guys...I'll give TSL a call - they are closer!
For your info... the guy who fitted my new tyres told me he had seen numerous Scoobies with the same problem...
Had my settings checked at my Scoob Dealer - they were ALL within Subaru tolerances - yet the dealer said they had a couple of customers reporting the same problem!
Subaru got something wrong somewhere!!!

It's interesting that you say your dealer said they were all good.
Not 100% sure but I seem to remember when EVO took their Fleet car back to point the problem out they said the same, but the problem persited. Took it back again had new tyres fitted and miraculously the problem went away without the dealer doing anything ummm funny that.
Why is it that so many people appear to be suffering from this problem, sounds to me like you say that Subaru have indeed got something wrong somewhere.

I had exactly the same on my 01wrx,tyres worn out but geometry
supposedly correct.Give customer services a call, you wont believe
the crap they come out with, one tip he gave was to rotate every
6000k,which is great considering they had worn out after 5500.

My 02wrx did this too,BUT my 01 wrx DIDN'T.
Same tyres, same road if anything, hammered the 1st car more but lasted 15k for all 4 tyres, worn perfectly even.
New car tyres well worn at 5k, doubt they'll make 10K.
Clearly then it's not inevitable so somethings wrong with the new one.
Oh and it's never been kerbed and the tyre pressures are right.
It's extremely annoying and damned expensive, yet I.M. don't seem to give a damn.

"Had my settings checked at my Scoob Dealer - they were ALL within Subaru tolerances - yet the dealer said they had a couple of customers reporting the same problem!"
Depends how wide the tolerances were set - looks like a sloppy specification on production line which is then written into dealers manuals and hence our problems
You can get anything and everything to be within tolerance if you make them slack enough.
Looks like a trip to TSL for a geometry setup to try and make the tyres last a bit longer when mine comes (and run the gauntlet of the Trouser wallet lightning horrors )
Which setup do people go for - correct setting of standard or Prodrive or anything else? (it'll be for an my02)
