4pots or 2pots
#1
Moderators, please feel free to move, started in here as need a quick response and we all now this section has the widest audience!
Has anyone swapped their 2 pots for 4 pots from a later model (mines a MY96), if so, are they considerably better and will they go straight on to my car.
Car is booked in at Scoobysport at end of month to have possibly discs pads and hoses fitted (front and back). Am I better of trying to source some second hand 4 Pots for the front first.
Any early replies greatly appreciated as there are some 4 Pots in the for sale section at £275.00, sounds reasonable to me, is it?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
I swopped my 2 pots on my 95 STI for 4 pots of a '99.
I think you need at least 16" wheels for them to fit.
I found a noticeable improvment,but there still not exactly **** hot !
I was advised to steer clear of the ' cheap ' aftermarket discs ect by a very knowledgeable person !
Hope this helps,
Andyp
ps £275 is about right, they should have pads for that money though. They come up quite often so dont buy if there excessively worn...

Sounds like a good price to me.
I got a good set of 4 pots with discs and pads off a well known Scoobynetter (thanks again ) for £300.
All I did then was to fit the 17's I had purchaed and uprate the discs and pads, along with some braided hoses.
I have an MY94, the only real problem would be if you have 15's - get some 16's or above.
Michelle.

In the process of swapping mine. Hoping for a reasonable performance increase, but if not they will at least look a lot better...
If you're discs & pads need replacing anyway then I would say it is well worth it for the right price.

Thanks for your comments.
Got 17" fitted, so no probs there, just wasn't sure whether to shell out an additional £275 for the 4pots on top of £600 odd plus VAT for uprated discs, pads and hoses from Scoobysport. For an extra couple of hundred I could stretch to some Brembo jobbies. Nice!
If there's not a great deal of improvement going from 2pots to 4pots I probably won't bother.
What do you think, worth it or not?

I am sure Pete will advise you of what is best for you
If you can afford to shell out for some calipers like the Brembos or even better - the AP's then do so!!! Otherwise I find that the standard 4 pots are good enough with some quality discs, pads and hoses.

I think that 4 pots will give you more scope for bigger discs etc in the future. It seems you're there already though.
A friend's MY99 certainly slows down a lot better than my MY96. His had 4 pots and standard discs at the time. Mine has a very badly scored LH disc though!
My plan is to use the Subaru 4 pots and standard discs (all from an RB5) until I can afford to get a big disc conversion (such as the Godspeed one)
Were you thinking of Subaru 4 pots or another make?

Thinking of Subaru 4 Pots as there's some in for sale section for £275 (with worn pads and good discs). Not really bothered about discs and pads cos going for Group N+ kit from Scoobysport.
Just cant decide what to do, I don't track day or thrash the car so stopping power is massively important, perhaps the disc and pad upgrade will be enough. I don't know.......Help!

Chris, is it the Pagid upgrade from ScoobySport? In which case it will be good. Pagid RS421 pads are excellent. But 4-pot calipers are much better than the old 2-potters. Well worth the extra. While you're at it, you can fit bigger discs under 17in wheels, although you must check the spokes will clear the caliper - most do, but you obviously must be certain Other quality alternatives are the Godspeed two-piece disc upgrades, available in various sizes.
Best regards,
Richard.

Speaking of 2 pots, my m8 has an MY94 with standard pads and Black Diamond combi disks, and has just managed to knacker the pads in 8 months, complete with some very uneven pad wear . Someone he spoke to claimed that the 2 pots are prone to this. Is this correct? or has he got porblems?

Brun,
yes 2-pots are prone to uneven pad wear due to the floating caliper sticking. Had this problem with my 93 WRX, and so upgraded to 4-pots as the current discs & pads required replacing anyway. Dead easy to swap, and with decent aftermarket discs & pads should be loads better than the 2-pot set up.
