Default ABS warning light

MY97 - 98
Hi. In need of some advice the best way to diagnose an abs system fault. Issue came about out of the blue with nothing bringing it on. Connection to aftermarket ecu is not possible so interior fault connectors cannot be used either
Thanks

Long shot but easy to do. Check the fuse.
I used to remove it on my classic as I hated the abs. It got fitted for the MOT and replaced with a blown one for the rest of the time. By having a blown fuse fitted, it showed as a fault. Yes, it's only just come on and I'm going to get it repaired officer. The good fuse lived in the coin box.
I kept meaning to fit an ABS off switch but never got round to it.
