Hi,

My dealer has "warned" me that all 4 of my discs are heading for replacement, and proceeded to frighten me with the cost of fitting original stoppers all round.

Naturally turning to the alternatives, there are plenty options available which could provide better performance for less cash, and came up with the following "single manufacturer" options:

Cheapest - EBC, D729 plain vented front, Greenstuff pads, D728 plain solid rear discs, EBC Black rear pads , all in £283.70

EBC "slightly better" replace front discs with Turbogrooves, all in £337.27. (Can't find any greenstuff rears).

Red Dot, front 6 Groove vented XJ4115, fast road pads XE4115. Rear, 6 Groove solid XJ4125, XE4118 fast road pads. All in £422.26.

Finally Pagid, 8 Groove 53305 vented front discs, Fast Road pads FR3077 or FR30108 (both are listed for 1997, my year). Rear 8 groove solid 53307, pads FR3021. All in £431.11 (A bit less if its FR3077 front pads).

I'm looking for slightly better than original performance (without sacrificing longevity) for rather less outlay, and don't do track days or prolonged heavy braking work.

Anyone with experience care to recommend any particular package over the other? WOuld my needs be met by the cheapest EBC offering (I'm concerned at the standard black rear pads and occasional negative postings)?

BTW I'd probably not wish to mix manufacturers it'll be my local garage that'll fit them, plus I'd want to buy the lot at once.

I believe that Godspeed will do you a set of four discs (drilled, slotted, whatever) with a 12 month guarantee against warping, with Mintex 1144s on the front and some sort of Kevlar pads on the back for 400 notes all in

I would avoid the EBC setup on a scoob, worse than OEM IMHO, you get what you pay for.....

 

I'm running the TSL Group N disc/Ferodo DS2500 pad combination and they work really well - very consistent, no noise and fairly clean dustwise - recommended.

 

I'm with Marin on that - still well pleased with the TSL setup after about 8k miles, including some very hard driving in Spain.

 

Sorry to interupt your thread - the TSL set up has been great for me too, but I now have a problem you TSL guys might just be able to solve?

Thanks for the replies so far, confirms what I feared about EBC. Have emailed TSL, to see if they do discs for a MY97, and DS2500 for pre-1999, including rears. The website only mentions later cars with the 4-pot setup.

Hi Weatherman,

I'm using the new EBC Turbogrove discs(four spot trackday ones) with Red Dot XE pads on the front. £125 per pair discs and about £46 pads both including VAT.

At the rear I've got Bradi discs with EBC Greenstuff V4 pads, not sure of prices off hand.

Braking performance is superb by 2 pot standards, very pleased with this setup. The Red Dot pads seems much better than the EBC Greenstuff V3 pads that were on before.

Don't buy the Plain EBC discs, I warped a pair at a Donnington track day and was only spectating!! I only paid the difference in price to upgrade to the original(three spot) Turbogroove discs though.

Don't be affraid to mix and match brands.

Went ahead and got the Brembo Group Ns and Ferodo DS2500 from TSL, just over £485. Had to describe the shape of the pads as there are apparently 2 sizes used on 1997 models. I'll let you know how good they are after they're bedded in

 

I changed my setup last year, replaced standard disk/pad on front with EBC greens, they've not impressed me at all. Would probably agree with comment above in that the originals are not the worst IMHO.
