Default Warped discs???

I'm fairly certain they're goosed.....

When I got the car I presumed the feeling through the steering was due to the worn tie rod but everything has been sorted, suspension and steering is nice and tight now so all that's left is gubbed discs.

When I'm braking from high speed it seems horrendous, and then after that at slower speeds it's pretty bad. But after driving at slower speeds for a bit or braking gently for a while it's not as bad, but you can definitely feel it pretty much 85% of the time.

I stumbled across a thread on PH where someone asked about warped discs and all the ***** came out in force about this that and the next, but do I just replace the discs? Or discs and pads? But what worries me is that either one or both calipers are binding slightly causing the issue over time which means the replacement discs will go the same way.

Or do I go daft and buy the bigger 355mm AP kit

Either warped discs or stuck pistons in the calipers, possibly both

Can also be deposits on the disks, can make it feel like you have square wheels under braking.

I've suffered with this and replaced disks only to get the same problem, I've also had it and managed to clear it with the current ksport 8 pots.

I think the disk / pad needs to be compatible some how to avoid the deposits and also be properly used.

You could try a couple of strong heat cycles, getting them very hot and allowing them to cool, but avoiding coming to a halt on the brakes while very hot.

Or you could try replacing the pads, I currently have DS2500, they are a tad dusty but the issue with deposits never recurred.

Or they could be warped, but my research suggested this is actually quite unusual.

You don't specify the feeling; I guess it is just judder, and just needs discs and a caliper rebuild, which is not a bad thing to do.
If there are other symptoms, it may be worth googling the GR firewall spotweld thread on US forums, which earlier hatches seem to suffer from. I've not heard of it in the UK.
Sorry it's another thing to worry about.

Tell me about it, I presumed it was the tie rod causing the feeling through the steering whilst braking....oh how wrong I was.

It's judder through the steering that I'm getting.

I'll google that firewall issue, hopefully nothing to do with that.

Cheers

It's exactly the same issue I have with my hatch every 3-5000 miles, extreme judder through the steering wheel when breaking at 40+mph.

I've had the hub faces, wheel bearings and calipers checked and all have come back fine. A lot of hatch owners reporting this issue with front breaks, Subaru don't acknowledge it so I've decided to upgrade the setup.

Good luck sorting it out.
