All,

Never changed brakes myself before but whilst taking them apart on Saturday noticed that the current Subaru Pads have anti rattle shims on them.......

Do I need to get some more shims as Subaru say that you can't buy them on their own or do you run them without them?????

Also the main nut that holds the disc on has been crimped at the bottom so as Subaru have to replace it when they change the discs, whats the general thought on this? Try and get it off with care? Can you buy new ones??

Just use the old anti rattle shims on the new pads , the discs should just pull off , there is nothing holding them on , what do you mean by the main nut ?? if you mean the one in the middle of the discs this holds the drive flange on and you dont need to touch this while changing the brakes.

I will have to prise the shims off the old pads carefully then as it looks like they are stuck on.

Wasn't sure about the nut in the centre of the wheel, looked like it had to come off so as to change the pads!?!
