Default STi V3 - replacing front drivers metal brake pipe?

Managed to twist and burst the metal pipe when fitting new flexible hoses - and this was even after applying heat. As it's the drivers side, it's not a long metal pipe section back to the master cylinder manifold, I think there might be enough room to slide it back and out via the transmission tunnel.

I guess another option is to just replace the damaged section and swage the existing pipe, and fit a connector.

Anyone done this? Just looking for some advice before attempting the job.
