Default Pads and sticky caliper help!

I know this has probably been covered loads before and probably a sticky somewhere but I couldnt find it.

I just bought my 2001 impreza wrx saloon and one of the front calipers is sticking. So I am planning to free up the caliper and change the pads at the same time all going well.

So is this a common issue the sticky caliper and is there an easy fix? Also are pagid pads any good from ECP? Just need to know which ones to buy?

Thanks

yes its very common on the 4 pots. youll need to remove the piston to inspect it and the clean the inside surface of the caliper.

When you say 'inspect' what is the worst case scenario?

Get BOTH calipers refurbed and fitted with stainless steel pistons. Get it done asap. If you keep driving it you'll bugger up your discs and pads as they'll wear really unevenly.

Is this something that can be done at a later date? Ive just bought the car and until I have used it I really don't want to start spending money until I know it's a keeper!

What is the cost of the refurb?

Can I not just free it temporarily until I've used the car for a few weeks then once happy il start spending?

It can be done at a later date but you'll wear the discs and pads unevenly and will probably need to change those too.

You can get them done for around £100-120ish exchanged.

Ian can get them sorted for you.

He'll probably be along in a bit.

inspect the piston for pitting. ive gotten away with a small amount of pitting. give the inside lip of the caliper a clean with some wet and dry and put it back together if your short on funds. pistons can be bought in singles if need be.

I think the best option is to temporarily free it as I need to know the car is a keeper then I will do the full refurb/exchange.

Is there a simple brembo upgrade from another scooby that will fir that does not suffer from the same issue?

Yes the front Brembos from any Impreza will fit but that means different pads/discs and wheels that will fit over them, but they can suffer from the bolts sticking in the caliper.
