Do I need to go the full hog??
Hi guys
Just curious, I have a newage WRX that I am planning on tuning to around 320-340bhp and have read on various threads that brake upgrades are also recommended. Are there any combinations of pads/discs that I could use on the standard calipers, etc that would be considered an upgrade or would I need to go the full expensive route of calipers, etc as well?
£600+ on a new brake kit is quite a hit but brakes are brakes they are there for a good reason so if I have no alternative then so be it but just looking at options

Looking more about £400 as full sets go for £600+ and even then you may not get pads/discs with them so that's more money.
If you're on Facebook there are plenty of breakers on there trying to make some easy money so you may get a bargain off there.
As forgedmarco has just said hubcentric spacers this is what I had to do to my classic think they were about £300 in total (set of 4)

imo you will not get a front set that cheaply from most breakers although I got my black ones for £360 from Subaru themselves

Blimey you did get yourself a bargain or 2.
I do think you have to search hard for the bargains though as the the Brembo prices seem to be going up due to their popularity now, and there are plenty of dreamers out there saw a rear set of black Brembos going for as much as a front set!

Lol, well my cousin owns an evo and apparently he said that the red brembos of them are exactly the same as the subaru ones just need brackets to bolt them on and they sell for a lot cheaper n what some people do is paint them gold and sell them as subaru kits as they sell for more..

Cheers for the info guys, guess I will just have to hunt around. Are there no pads/discs that can be fitted to the OEM calipers that will do the trick?

But what a bodge ! your better off , and safer just fitting the STi Brembo's , wouldn't surprise me if the OP on nasioc is dead now after doing that !
I mean , grinding the lugs down with an angle grinder !! at least machine them so the surfaces are totally flat and running in line with the hub lugs , thats a recipe for disaster before you start .

As an example , you could fit grooved front and rear discs with RC5+ pads and they would work very well , cost would be about £450 , or you could look at one of our 335mm big brake kits that retains the original Subaru 4 pots , this kit comes complete with a choice of pad compounds and makes a big difference in braking power over the standard sized discs.
You first need to check your front calipers are working properly as they are prone to seizing , otherwise you can add the cost of refurbing them on top.
We also have available from time to time reconditioned calipers from Brembo or AP , not the STi Brembo's , but radially mounted Brembo's , we can supply them with new discs bells brackets and pads , and depending how much we buy the calipers for they end up around £800 to £1000 for a full kit
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian
