18x9 vs 18x8.5 for hawkeye
Hi guys am after some new 18" wheels for my hawkeye STi
Not sure about which rim width and offset to go for though, ideally I want a 9" width rim but worried about scrubbing issues. I plan on having the car sitting low on coilovers.
Would an 18x9 et30 rim with a 235/40/18 tyre be ok?
Any advice much appreciated regarding offsets, rim widths, tyre profile for these rims. Feel free to post pics
Cheers

kevfawcett that looks amazing! Love how low your car sits on those wheels, must be a good 40mm drop?
Good to hear they fit ok, any problems with scrubbing on full lock? Is it a big job to get the rear arches rolled?

I have no problems with rubbing at all but I've rolled the arches all round and removed the front arch liners.
You will have no need to roll the rear arches as yours have been cut back and the little arch extensions added
This/similar question has been asked numerous times and I've always said that 18x9 et30 would NOT fit, but I've been told numerous times that it will. It appears my original thought was correct

Thanks for the helpful comments kevfawcett. Would a different offset be more suitable to cause less rubbing? Or do you think it would be more suitable to get a 8.5" rim instead of a 9" one? I want the car as low as yours it looks awesome.
Also, what rear diffuser is that you have on your car? I haven't seen one like that

Slightly less aggressive offset would be better. As mentioned, mine are 18x9 with et36 (which is only 6mm difference, I also have slightly narrower tyres, but I get no rubbing at all and I'm fairly low

the highest offset they do in the wheels I'm interested in for the 9" rim are et35. the 8.5 inch rim goes up to et48. Excuse my ignorance, but is I safe to run a 225/40 tyre on a 9" rim? Its doesn't compromise handling does it? They do look pretty stretched! Guessing a 235 wouldn't fit the car?
Diffuser looks wicked, rare too, ill look into that

It'll handle very well if set up properly. I wouldn't use them on the track but it'll be easily good enough for anything you do on the road
