Default 9x17 wheels on a classic

I've got a 22b styled car and have been struggling for ages to find some rims that I like, I've currently got 7.5x 18" that I love and looks fab on the car but without spacers looks pants and I'm worried that using spacers will catch the rear arches, even with coilovers set on what i think is highest setting it's still too low so I'm thinking of going for 9x17 oz formula hlt wheels with 235/40/17 front and 245/40/17 rear , does anyone here know what the car will drive like with this wheel/tyre size. Standard 22b was 8.5x17 and 235/40/17 tyres .... Thanks

Running tyres with different rolling radius front and rear will not be good for the centre diff. You may want to stick to the same size front and rear.

Why will spacers mean it will catch the arch? If you don't have any space at the moment how are you going to fit a 9x17? My 22b had 25mm spacers fitted with the standard 8.5"x17 48 offset wheel (235 tyre) and there were no rubbing issues. I only removed them to improve the handling. Less tramlining and better steering feel.

Also the 22b has 10mm more rear track so you may need a 5mm spacer on the back to get the right look.

At the moment the car is pretty low and the rear arch lip is very close the the tyre, if I was to widen the track with spacers the tyre will catch the lip, if I was to put a 17" rim on, I will gain a little bit more clearance between top of tyre and arch lip and will then be able to get away with the wider wheel. I am going to try and see if I can get anymore more height adjustment on my coilovers as I do like the look of the PFFR wheels but being so narrow just looks ridiculous. I think I'll just stick with the same width tyres front and rear if its going to add unnecessary stress to the diff.
