As anyone removed ABS from their car?? I'd like to get rid of mine as it's causing more trouble than doing good. It's on a 97 T2000. All of the tone rings are corroded beyond use and trigger the ABS for no reason at all. New tone rings are something like £80 each! I've pulled the fuse to stop them working for now. I've been reading on the DVLA web pages that it is legal to remove it but the entire system must be removed, i.e. The ECU, sensors, wiring, servo and so on. Has anyone done it??

I've done it - not all of the wiring yet but even a good tester would fail to find them without dismantling the car - https://www.scoobynet.com/members-ga...reduction.html

Looks like a mission. I could certainly do it but looks potentially costly and time consuming.

I found this though:

Any thoughts?

That would work and I suspect you could do something similar with T-pieces and some copper pipe as long as you where confident of the pipe routing. Having done it once I am tempted to go back and redo some of the copper as I now know the route for the runs but first time it was a epic journey. A bit more planning would probably have helped but it works. I am going to make some tweaks in due course including better pipework around the bias valve but that will do for now.

The only thing stopping me getting stuck in is brake bias. Does the abs unit have any input on this?

No mate, there's a seperate 2-port proportioning valve attached to the offside strut tower that does the front to rear balance. I don't see any reason why you couldn't split the pipework from one of the master cylinder outputs and run the 2 channels into the OE valve

I'll have a look at it tomorrow, but sounds pretty simple in that case! Or else just bolt one of those machines manifolds I found straight in to the original pipework. That's gonna be the fastest way to do it I guess.

Look here from post 280 for one solution to removing the ABS -http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1439367&page=12

Some Impreza's didn't come with ABS so you could even get the pipe work from a scrappy.

Oh and usual disclaimer of 'you'll need to tell your insurance company'.
