chairman position
it is with great regret that i have to announce the resignation of our chairman, mr paul crafts. paul rang me yesterday with the news.
paul, we would like to thank you for your time as chair, and wish you all the best with whatever you decide to do in the future.
we now are in a position where we need to discuss with ourselves again whether the club should have a chair, or if the people doing certain administration duties should carry on as normal and all decisions are put to the club. or if you feel that we do need a chairman, please add your nominations!
please can you post your thoughts/opinions/nominations/thanks etc. on this thread, and also bring them to the EOM (29 Jan). I wont be at the EOM, but i'm sure you can all behave on your own!!!
i'll leave this as an open discussion, and by the time the EOM rolls round, we should have some kind of thought about where we are going! (hopefully)
NB.... paul did also mention that the area where our club caravan is parked is now needed again for his business, if anyone can volunteer some space for the van then that would be a great help, otherwise we will have to leave it on a roadside with the potnetial of it being broken into. Please discuss this here also!!!
Cheers guys and gals x

Hi Lynz
Me and Mick have been discussing this very point tonight over a bottle of Smirnoff
We believe that there are enough grown up members to deal with any disputes on open forum without the need to result in childish remarks (not always for the comedy value) or slander, however, as you know the club really needs a spokesperson or chairman to deal with any media and scoobynet management issues, these need to be handled in a sensitive and professional manner, no insult intended here.
Lynz regardless of your relationship with members you always seem to handle things on open forum with good intent and as said no issues ever arise with your loyalties with regards the WYIOC and said friendships.
We sincerely believe you are a good choice for this position obviously work and time permitting, you know you will always have a wealth of experience from members such as my Mick and Alan C not to mention the numerous 'old' members and 'new' alike whom 'OFFLINE WILL' offer their support and assistance.
This is the WYIOC a superb (world class
) club, not a new one we have been here forever
and with the help and support from all members as said old and new alike can over come all obstacles.
We have not fought childhood and puberty to let a single thing like the chairman position to spoil this meeting point for grown ups and children alike to have fun and enjoy themselves in the digital world.
It's a club not a dictatorship, were all grown ups of varying degrees, lets live and let live, lets post and let post, but most of all lets have fun and not be concerned who with, just that somewhere somehow a WYIOC'er is having a ball.

I've said it a million times before and I'll say it again.... Mick / Jackie, I agree wholeheartedly with your words.
I've also said a million times;
"the best way to manage this club is not to manage it...."
Also:
"the club has never been a clipboard club"
If these two unwritten rules are unheeded, then the outcome is that the club is pushed into things it cannot sustain for long. Which then necessitates either reverting back to basics (see rules above) or a 'directed' approach. This second option requires an immense amount of time and effort. If you have people with that time then fine, but every time I / we / someone thinks it's an easy task to devote that time to a full blown directed chairmanship, then I'm afraid they've come unstuck as it does require much more effort than people give it credit for..
Simply put, let it flow and ebb how each person wants. Get rid of all the grand plans and micro management unless people can guarantee the time (which as we know is hard)...
The best doo's we seem to have are the one's that just 'occur', last minute planned (I remember Paul and Debs turning up at my gaff the day before the NBO and we banged together one of our best ever stands) or those impromtu meets and runs that seem to have died off, in favour of planned event.....
This isn't a dig, far from it... Paul and Debs have been ultra solid club members for many years and we wouldn't be here as we are today without them... I'd go as far as to say they've been the best and most solid and consistent club members (oozing passion and dedication) that we've ever had....
But like Cricket captaincy, being a spectacular player doesn't equate to being a great captain...likewise a great captain doesn't make a great player.... I hope Paul and Debs retain this position by supporting the next person to step forward...
Whoever it is, I'd point them to the way the club 'naturally' runs.... all that's required is a simple nudge and kick every now and again....
All IMHO of course...

I have to agree there Al, some of the most memorable days in my life have "just happened" and been spontanious.
I cant say much for running a club because its something i have never done and I just wouldnt have enough time to have a go at it but all i can imagine is its hard work to keep up to. You would have to be extremely dedicated like you say and i cant say a word against anybody who has had a go at it or taken any position in the running, so thanks to those who have done and who do now
That said im not in a position to vote either way.

thanks all for your comments, i cannot agree more with you all about this, we're never going to be that big massive club with all the awards (although they are nice if they turn up along the way!!) the club is simply a bunch of friends under a common banner of the WYIOC, and so it shall remain, i'm happy to let things continue as it manages itself.
i'd be happy to take on any position in the club, but only if people think there is a need for it, i'm happy to carry on being a member that does things, as i'm sure emma is happy to be a member with the money!
i think we should regroup over the next couple of months, we had a great meet at the ship the other night, and we should continue in the spirit of meeting as a group of friends who love imprezas... but most of all enjoy each others company, after all without friendship.. there would be no WYIOC.
now due to a pre-arranged "getting trollleyed" session i wont be able to make the EOM in Jan, but i will always be available to those who want a chat and want to be mates.
