Default Turbo

Can anyone tell me what BHP is achievable from my standard 03 WRX turbo?

Thinking of upgrading the turbo, but just may go for a remap and save my hard earned dosh.

Cheers

Most manage 270-280 bhp without to much trouble....

A VF35 off an STI may make 340 bhp, but you will need a fuel pump and pink (STI) injectors, then a re-map. Maybe £600 in bits and about the same for mapping.

You should be able acheive STI Std power (276HP) as Dunx says, with good induction and exhaust. Problem is to get any more your gonna have to increase boost above approx 1.3/1.4 bar and the TD04 turbo that you may have does not like going anymore as it just generates heat as its outside it efficiency. It can be done but its just not the safest/right way to do it.

I want to mod my WR1 to get more power out of it. When I spoke to Roger Clark Motorsport about it they sent me a quote for £6,000+ VAT to get it up from 316bhp to 400bhp. I wonder if there are any cheaper solutions out there as thats just silly money... I could buy an old 400bhp Nissan GTR R33 vspec for that and use it as a track car... tshhh

You wont get 320bhp on a standard TD04 mate. TD05 16g or VF34/35 is what you will need for that power level IMHO

roger clark are the best but you pay for that if you do it yourself parts wise you can do it for £2500 to £3000 cheaper with used parts then mapping £550 to £650

you don't need a front mount for one and remap want included thats why i put it after. there are many routes to 400bhp thats why i said rough prices and you can always get cheaper if you shop around

£1500 md321h
£200 samco induction pipe
£400 injectors
£500 3inch decat exhaust
£300 gt spec 2 headers
£80 fuel pump
£40 panel filter

total £3020

but you can get to 400bhp without the md321h running below on meth etc

£850 td05 20g
£250 Fpr and pipes
£500 3inch decat exhaust
£300 gt spec headers
£80 fuel pump
£40 panel filter

total £2020

Got to say, one reason I changed marques, the scoobs take a lot of £ to get high bhp and torque, the Evo costs around 2k to go from 300 to 400bhp 400lbs torque, and cheaper if you flash the ECU.

With a rod conversion and something like an FP Red, your looking at 500hp for an extra 2k.

So, very roughly, 500hp (depending on turbo) for 4k from a stock 300hp car.

My thoughts exactly... on top of the 6K+VAT they recommended a FMIC and a AP Organic Clutch... both around another 1k each fitted... silly money... id rather spend £2K-£3K if im going to do it... just need it to be reliable though for commuting to work etc...

Yer ive heard off a few people that Roger Clark are the best money can buy for mods but they are rather expensive. If you can point me in the direction of someone local that can get a WR1 up to around the 400bhp mark keeping it reliable for £2K-£3K then please let me know some details.

My dilema is I gave the wife my old Focus ST which had a Graham Goode Racing ST300 conversion.. that car has 300BHP and 500NM of torque... It leaves my WR1 for dust once its got grip to the front wheels.... Cant go letting the wife have a faster car than me now can I... wish id have kept her old Fiesta ST now!!

Thanks for the advice guys and apologies for hijacking the thread..

Going well mate, was planning on coming on Sticky's christmas run out but sold my seats b4 my new ones arrived......infact they still arn't here (having them made) and its been stuck on drive for 4 weeks now....lol

Doing a lot of sprints and trackdays this year, and maybe a rod conversion so I can increase boost and give it some without worry of it going pop.

Hows things mate?

Get some pics of that beast up

Aye, typical straight line comparison though there mate, a lot will give these a run for there money but test em against a scoob in its own environment and it will show it a clean pair of heels....

Nothing better than ramming it around corners and seeing the swaying fwd's driving to keep grip

There rally cars at heart remember.

what sort you getting carbon? the seats of the evo is what put me off when i was looking for mine as i was between scoob and evo but they where a bit too small for a fat tw*t like me and a few other reasons but do wish sometimes i'd gone the other way.
so how you think they compare power and use wise?

i'm not too bad, mines been off the road for naily 6 months now not touched it for a month been that cold(lazy) keep adding bits, waiting for parts and funds. most of the stuff i'm doing will never be seen as well should have bought a 2.5 block for money i've spent over the months

I've been there Megaman, got the t-shirt too !

Mine is waiting for it's Exedy to be fitted by Rick @ RE Motorsport....

Std clutch simply can't hold the torque anymore, and it's not finally re-re-mapped yet !

Yes that is another £1000 down the pan. LOL

Yes by 400 bhp you really do want a decent FMIC on the car !

MD,fpr,headers, exhaust,clutch, FMIC, Re-MAP = £5K

HTH

dunx

P.S. New front wing £100 ! LOL

I had the car on dyno at aet and they said it was running rich. Not been driving hard until i am happy, but dont want to spend £600 on a remap and decide to change turbo. If i had £1500 to spend right now i would get it done, have to do mods gradually.4 kids and a wife that likes fancy holidays has to have a turn.

4kids and wife that will take some money then.
remap is say £600 first time but alot charge £200ish for the maps after that as you've paid for the ecutek licence so depends how you look at it time wise if you are getting turbo soon extra wait if you thinks it'l be a good few months then i'd say get remap and enjoy driving car hard without having to worry

Getting some light weight kevlar ones, I removed some corbeau ones as they were a living hell to drive around in anything other than a track...lol

On a bit of a mission to lighten the car, nur spec has gone in favour of a lightweight 3kg titanium cat back jobbie, and changing seats have saved me around 35kg beleive it or not, the ones that were in, were some ralliart leather ones, so quite heavier, now the new ones are a lot lighter and better.

Id considered stripping it and removing back seats etc (Ive got a diesel estate workhorse) so will see how I go, im bookjed in for Rockingham and teeside in the MLR sprint series this year, If I do well I might seriously strip it...lol...lose the sound proofing..the lot

Are you aftyer more power Swifty...I fancy a stroker but funds and ancillaries to go with it just don't allow at present

sounds good i've been in 2 minds what to do with mine to strip it out and go down the a track/road car or go for looks and practical but more weight so we'l see what happens
most stuff i'm doing is to make engine more safe doing oil pump, lateral sump then doing a few suspension mods and changed discs to groved and doing samco pipes etc etc keep thinking of new bits then if everything is working spot on then going to do meth/tuline

but same as you want to do the engine but it's just too much money worked out everything i want and extras and price was £10000 and i can't justify putting that sort of money into it but if lottery comes up i will

you'l after get some pics up when you get it striped

Yeah, it gets to the point where im fed up of spending, so trying to lighten and just get experience with the sprinting and some trackdays and really use it for what they were made for.

Ill try doing some pics soon bud, been a while, same wi you! Its a sorted scoob so get some taken

i'm going to do some weight saving nowt to car but me looked into bits you can take off and you can go mental to get the car weight some cost more than you'd expect like the propshaft light weight at a grand.

i will do when its back together its got cobwebbs all over it at the mo
