Following a small gathering of a few of last years "Swiss Crew" a date has been set for the 22nd of May departure, with a 2am sailing on the 23rd, returning at the same time on Monday 1st June, this will give us a couple more days to explore the stunning scenery (and sample the fantastic beer).
As there was so much interest last time, but ultimately a rather disappointing final list, it was decided by the majority of those who went to just do it on the quiet this year, however as there seems to be some very timely interest I feel we should now make it public.
Basic schedule would be the sailings as listed above, with the first 2 nights hotels booked prior to travel, and the rest being sorted / haggled / blagged on the night. No firm routes planned yet either.
If the £ / Euro rate stays at around the 1:1 mark then reckon on about £2000 for the whole trip for a couple, slightly less for just one person (so long as you're prepared to share a room)
Last year cost me around £1300 (including accommodation and food / beer for myself & Jade) but back then the Euro was at around 78p, take into account the current exch. rates, and the extra couple of days and £2k will be about right.
We're looking to book ferries in the very near future, so anyone wanting to go would need to confirm AND pay the ferry cost (Currently £39 return IIRC) and the first 2 nights accommodation by this month's EOM.
It's nice to have some interest being shown in this, perhaps this time all those showing such genuine enthusiasm could actually make!
Believe me, it's worth it...

I also think it necessary to add that, due to the logistics of getting large numbers of bodies and cars around what will be a pretty hectic schedule, combined with the way we've decided to go without booking hotels, etc. that the absolute maximum number of cars for the trip should be 6.
Last year was perfect (5 cars) as we had no trouble with hotels, parking, eating, even pulling over for impromptu photo opportunities. Any more than 6 cars would detract from the whole experience. Please ONLY put your names down if you are 100% certain this is for you.

I have to agree with that. Its not a case of leaving people out or saying people cant come but personally i wouldnt want to spend £2000 on a holiday to have a large group of cars constantly waiting for each other through lights/villages etc and having trouble finding a hotel that can put us all up at the same time in the same place.
We only had 1 break down last year and that was a flat tyre that took 4 men 10 minutes to fix
-

but if we have loads of cars theres also more chance of somebody having problems and it holding the trip up - obviously theres a chance of this happening to any of us but with fewer cars theres less of a chance.
Its not the company or the club that i have an issue with and i dont want anybody to think bad about anything ive said, its more down to the fact that its not going to be cheap and its too much money to spend half of it waiting round and not taking in the beautiful scenery and roads etc........
Because we went last year, if the numbers grow larger i am prepared to give somebody else our place and i honestly wont have a problem with it
I do however have to organise somebody for the dog and cover at work (ie - i have booked that time off and the person who is covering my job has been told they cannot book time off then) so would like to know asap if possible how many cars will be attending this year so i can alter if neccessary.

i couldnt agree more, i simply cant raise £2k for a hol in may, and i doubt i can get the time off work, so i havent added my name
but i do agree that going on such a huge trip with a lot of people makes no sense at all, as stopping and starting would definately ruin it. the only other option avaialble is to have 2 groups of people, 2 lead drivers and an ickler group to follow, that way everyone gets where they are supposed to be but ultimately, you might never see the other group after the 1st hour on the road!!!
i'm hoping that one year i'll be able to afford this, and now... i'm utterly jealous as a jealous thing of you chaps once more

TBH I THINKS ITS ****,I ASKED FOR SOME INFO LAST NIGHT ABOUT THIS AND I GOT LIED TO, WHICH I DONT THINK IS FARE, there was a meeting about it last night, and i do have my own thoughts about why this has been made public now....but why the hell cant we put it up as a club trip like lynz as suggested, there may be one or two new members that want to go and come on lets be right here how does it look to new members when there's a trip been arranged under wraps......NOT GOOD....I honestly thought that all the secret **** had stopped but there is still a select few that like it that why, that's what causes people to loose the trust that a good friendship is based on...Thanks guys.....

WRONG!
It's not "secret ****" at all, just a bunch of mates wanting to enjoy a good time together, not even "club" related, other than the means by which they met.
I'm absolutely sure that if there is enough interest from the Club then a "Club" trip can be sorted without any hassle at all, and I'd be happy to make one in.
And shouldn't the chair be a little more reserved and balanced with their replies?
And why ask the question yesterday? (Assuming you have no "insider information" on any "Secret ****")
TBH, I'm past caring.
I'm going on the 22nd. With my mates.
If the club wants to arrange a trip, I'll consider going on that too, 'cos it's a great thing to do. Now rather than being negative, how about a positive post along the lines of "Yep, I'd really like to come on this..."

Sounds like a fantastic trip guys, sadly I wont be able to get £2,000 for then either as weve been saving up to go to Las Vegas in feb for my 30th Birthday. Would love to do that trip at some point though - i know a few that have been there and said its an amazing adventure doing something like that.

To be honest, me personally is getting put off by renewing my subs next year, there's too much of this sort of thing between members last year is a clear example. I know some people won't really give a toss whether I come or go but opinions are opinions, I have mine and there you go.
There's too much living in the past with a lot of people instead of pushing to make the club better, I know I'm not the only one who thinks it.
Don't forget the Nurburgring in March. Thats going to be £1000 +
I would love to go on the trip to Stelvio, But Sorry there is no way I can get that much time off from are lass.
I hope you all that are going have a fab time.

If anyone wants to go there are 20 Fridays to save up, take a loan (rates never been lower
), or credit card it.
Everyone's circumstances are different so its not easy to sort this out anyway.
Seems long enough time to me but I' d go on short notice anyway, also I haven't booked summer hols yet cos I hate booking things too far away.
I still could have to work away in China but I am hoping 19/20 weeks notice is ample.
It does cost a lot of hard earned but its a great trip.

Right.
Debbie - if you're going to post and voice your valued and much needed opinion (and that's me being honest not flippant), then you really should do so under your own name. Not the Chairs. Paul's name (now associated as the voice, opinion and, when needed, the final voice of the club) should really be reserved for him and his comments. Not yours.
Also, Lynz did not suggest this should be a club run event, she agreed with Ellie.
Let me get a few things crystal here....
Last years trip was totally open. It was published and started with lots of numbers. Once the 7 days, £1,500 costs and 3,000 miles became more and more real to people, it ended up with 5 cars and 8 people.
When we got back, and after gushing how fantastic it was, we vowed to go back. This was also open.
BUT and this is a big but, Ellie's comments are utterly correct. Such a trip CANNOT happen with more than a max of say 6 vehicles and 10 people. People who go on our local trips where there are 10+ cars and only a few miles can surely see how strung out the convoy gets. All the waiting and issues parking up 10-15 cars.. great fun here.. but not so pleasant in France at night in the rain... We're also talking about driving until everyone is tired and ready for some beer and pizza and simply finding a hotel and bartering a good room price. We had between 3 & 4 shared rooms. Double this number and the whole logistics become VERY difficult and again I agree with Ellie, unworkable.
Now, imagine all this, not for 150 miles to a £15 Tan Hill Sausage, but 8-10 nights 3,000 miles and now £2,000k.
This is serious undertaking that some people said wouldn't happen last year. Well, it did, and it's going ahead again. The group committing to go again (remember the £2k, 1 week off work and 3,000 miles) CANNOT wait for dreamers or people who are not 110% committed to the point of putting up a non-refundable £200 deposit or simply taking their valued word they'll go.
Those comments are not meant to be offensive, but for those who went last year this was a real undertaking that they experienced and know that the way it was planned (randomly), run (with the usual exemplary Sticky route planning) and handled (with only a few voices to make a snap decision that meant a change of direction, hotel, restaurant or an additional 400 miles to take in a particular pass) with the 8 people (imagine trying to make a simple decision with several voices having several opinions) was PERFECT. I certainly wouldn't want to risk £2k and a week+ off work to do less than what we did last year.
This has nothing to do with the personalities, or history... it's a simple fact of the logistics.
Rich, this club has NEVER done anything behind people backs and you especially should know that and I'm disappointed with your comments that it has......
Sure, things have been planned between a few mates (impromptu or just because they want to do something that only two people can do - I'll raise Mick's photo shoot here....) but that does not mean club cliques exist.
This trip has never been a closed shop..... but from bitter experience, we KNOW that such an undertaking will only be done by a few people with the time and resources.... this isn't being elitist or pompous it's fact... I can raise several large scale trips that had initial backing by 10+ cars, only to fall to 1, 2 or 3 at the end. Isle of Man? (Dave Carter put heart, soul, money and time into that trip and only me, Si and Dave remained at the end....) Nurburgring x3 anyone? What about the Milau bridge? None of these came off due to many people dropping at the last minute. Nuff said
I'm not going because it's my 25th Anniversary this year and I'm going on (hopefully) a decent trip New York with my good lady for a week...and after speaking to Andy today I totally agree that it should remain small, mobile and able to 'go with the flow' and not be planned and discussed to death. We know that won't work.....
If you REALLY want to go (i.e able to stump up £200 quid now and £2k later and guarantee 8-10 days in May), then I'd suggest a PM to Sticky (remember that numbers HAVE to be small. So some people may be disappointed)
If you're not interested, then comments moaning about it and the people who are, certainly aren't justified, warranted or needed.
Big thanks to Bez and Megaman for the supportive comments....

I would like to say I am shocked by some of the responses on here, but well sadly I am not, complaints about a 3000mile trip from a member who openly on other threads admits to not taking his car out on runs due to the cost, go figure!! just trying to rock the boat for the sake of sounding off why oh why. It is just a car club with individuals doing things they like to do.
We are all grown ups, and are allowed to make plans without having the consent from everyone else before we dare!, good god the WYIOC is not a dictatorship, it is and always will be a club for individuals with their own minds and own choices. throwing your teddy out of the cot because you were not involved with other peoples idea's and plans is simply childish.
The trip...
God guys how I wished i could come along, as you know was gutted last year when i could not come due to our Newquay holiday and the cost of two holidays being so close was beyond my means.
unfortunately the same is true again me and Jackie are going to newquay in June for 2 weeks in a rather plush holiday home, and i simply cant stretch to two holiday cost so close together.
I am also planning to do a trip to spain via the Pyranees on the bike for a week or extended weekend when the weather gets warmer. Their will be a thread and invite for this in here or the Northern section dependent on the future.
Hope you have great fun guys pretty certain you will given the smiles and tales from last years trip, I will catch up with you all soon

Mick... Well said BTW, I couldn't agree more.
It's also a real shame your missing this year too mate... You were sorely missed on the last trip and you'll be missed again I'm sure...
Let's look to secure a place for next year wherever that ends up...
A nice trip to Iceland!!!! Not the shop for some Turkey twizzlers.. but the island to get some offroad (you can take your tractor
), snow, geysers and some open air naked Jacuzzis....
Dave - I'm also looking to take the family to Cyprus after the NY trip, so that means funds are definitely out for anything else...
The naked Jacuzzis also means I'll be needing some work on the old figure....
