Charity Adoption
For those not at last night's meet, we tabled the notion of adopting a charity or two in light of Sticky & Dazza's work at Silverstone. The look on those kids faces touched us all.
We believe this will give the club a great sense of purpose and will allow us to channel the goodwill and great energy we have into something very worthwhile.
The final consensus was to Adopt a long term Kids charity and another charity that can be rotated throughout the year that is close to members' hearts.
It will initially start as bucket rattling at events or charging a few pounds extra for certain events (trackdays) where the extra money will go to the charities. My good lady had the excellent suggested of a monthly Raffle at the monthly main meet where we can have some donated stuff or wine/beer etc to raffle off.
The organisation of specific events where the charity get directly involved can come later, but all members will be considered chartity organisers, so any ideas, like the one above, for an event or money making scheme will be gratefully received.
Can I ask therefore for ask for nominations around the charities you'd like to see that will then be put forward for a vote.
Charity 1 is the Kids based long term adoption
Charity 2 is any charity you like. As we're 6 months through 06, this one will be adopted for the rest of the year and 2007.
Two suggestions initially put forward last night were;
1. Candlelighters. Yorkshire based kids charity (St James's) for Kids with Cancer or other malignant dieseases Http://www.candlelighters.org.uk/
2. MS. Close to Paul & Debs. http://www.mssociety.org.uk/
This will be a big decsion (especially the first charity as it needs to be suitable for the club's interest) so please add your own, discuss alternatives or just agree with those and I'll collate the results and start a poll if we have a tie or wish confirmation.

This one is my no means local, but has done a great deal for my family over the past years, my nephew was born with Cerebal Palsey and as my sister was living at the time in Colchester (Army stuff) they helped looked after him especially in the last few years of his life, Christine has already raised a fair amount for them running dressed as ScoobyDoo (Still have costume if needed!) in the Great North Run and a Fairy in the London Marathon.
EACH - Milton Hospice
Please don't feel obliged to pick them as they are not local, I just like to try and help them out whenever I can...

Whilst supporting this to the best of my ability, there is no way anyone is EVER going to get me to step out of a plane whilst it's wheels are out of contact with the ground. NEVER.
Or bungy jumping for that matter.
I have enough battles with gravity when I'm out on me bike, thank you very much.

My wife and I would like to nominate Cancer Research
Emma's family have been touched by the dreaded C and my grandad also sucumbed.
Now I've just found out that one of my work mates of 10 yrs has maybe 6 weeks to live.
hence my choice

Cancer Research and the Macmillan Nurses.
Helens' Dad died of pancreatic cancer. 4 years ago my auntie survived tongue cancer at the same time her sister had breast cancer, she has since been diagnosed with terminal leukemia. My Grandma died of a variant of leukemia and another auntie 10 years ago with similar. 15 years ago I was there to support a close friend during the time when his 9yo son was dying of it too. I can fully appreciate that it is the biggest killer
It is a difficult decision to come to though as MS and CF are indeed as worthy, and Candlelighters do wonderful work. Is it better to give a little to many, or a lot to one

Most would say a small amount is better than nothing, but let's say we realisitcally raise £1,000, would two benefit more from £500 each or 4 charities getting £250 each?
My call would be to stay at two and rotate the one. IMO, this allows more concentrated effort and we can possibly identify more with and get a better relationship going with a fewer number rather than having 4 or more..
The Candlelighters appear to cover the malignant (Cancer, leukemia etc) diseases...
Katrina and I had a miscarriage at 7 months where the baby died of Kidney failure (before Sean), so mine would be for that charity at some point and I'd like to think they'd benefit from more money rather than a small amount. But the kids one would be close to our heart due to the fact that Neil (what we called him) would have had a poor life if he'd been born.
It would be nice to hear from a charity organisation to hear their opinion...
