Default Stelvio Pass Road Trip

As posted in the Millau thread, we've now moved the WYIOC Road Trip back to July or August and will now be heading to the Stelvio Pass.

This was done to ensure that as many members get involved. The destination was changed in order to make the end result as worthwhile as possible. And it's slipped two months to allow people to save...

So we have to do a few things:
  • Choose a date..
    • Over a Long weekend
  • Finalise whose going..
  • Decide upon the length of the trip..
  • Decide upon the best way to get there..
I don't want to make it too definate yet, but the date will make a big difference.. So what month is preferable..

July? August? I'm sure there'll be some reason to go in a particular month, but It will be over a long Fri-Mon weekend, so you'll need to book some time off work. If there's any Bank Hols, let me know as that may be better...

If you would like to go, put your preferred dates here and I'll collate and arrange the most suitable for all.. If you want to drive or passesnger, then put that down. Passengering will be cheaper as we'll just arrange a seat and a share of some of the petrol costs... (TBC)

To give you some idea... The distance is about the same as Millau at around 950 Miles there...

1. Al. Driving. Either month. Any Date.

What to expect
The SMACS lads did the trip and posted a video here... www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/video.asp

Wkipedia do a decent roundup... Here

A nice picture....

Something to bear in mind perhaps...

I'm more than willing to drive and take my car. We are a car club after all. However, my interpretation of this would be to use it for a real good chin-wag between all involved, and therefore think it would be a good idea to have a driver / passenger in each car, and swap and change between cars every so often, so that we all get to natter with everyone else at some point. This would also help avoid driver fatigue, and any potential hazards that this may present.

Good point son. But there may be a fatal flaw if there's only seven people who all want to drive....

But if there are any pasengers, then the swapping may be a good ice breaker.. etc.

I mean, I've only go so many war stories..

Took my my99 uk classic with 100k on the clock and did over 2500 miles of trouble free motoring in 7 days Don't let the age or mileage of your car put you off what will be an awesome trip.
Good point sticky raises about sharing driving duties, 500, 600 or more miles in a day are tiring, doing it almost 7 days in a row was very very hard But ulitmately worth it
The drive back from nurburgring to Stockport was the longest day in the drivers seat I've ever had, all 600 miles of it

Last time Al drove round there he was in control of a coach full of gold bullion.

...some things never change.

"Hang on lads, I've got an idea..."

This innocuous looking photo will turn into a living nightmare for all those pictured. Imagine something akin to the aircraft seating plan in Final Destination and you'll not be far from the truth.

Initial attempts at Voodoo style 'sticking pins in the picture' seem to be working, as last Wednesdays attack on Al's calf seems to have proven.

Mwuhahaha...

Back on topic, just been informed by my Business Manager that I'm only available over the last two weekends in July and the first two in August.

Would this present a problem?
