How many of you folks might be interested in going to the Geneva Motor Show 2006, between March 2-12. It's a much bigger and better show than the paltry UK thing, and when you take into account fuel and travelling costs getting there, parking, entrance fees etc it could be a bit cheaper too. You can fly direct to Geneva from Leeds/Bradford for IRO £20 each way, arriving at 10.30am and returning the next day at lunchtime, so obviously would require an overnight where we could sample the delights of Swiss hospitality
Anyone
We'l need to look at booking flights fairly soon as the prices rises as the date nears. Anyone with experience of booking foreign B&B's could offer advice of places to stay and expected costs.
Haven't found the offical 2006 site yet

Tickets go on sale online on Jan 11th.

You'd need to hire a car though as I wouldn't rely on the bus service in France and taxis can get expensive as you have to cross the border and they like to charge for that! France is 15 minutes from the motor show in Palexpo right beside the airport. If you want to stay in Geneva then expect to pay a whole lot more for hotels (example is about £70 for a three star hotel) but the public transport system is excellent (clean, on time) and very good value for money -- go anywhere in Geneva for an hour for £1.30. Taxis in Geneva will cost you an arm and a leg -- something like £8.00 before you even move away from the kerb. Take a look at http://www.holidaycityeurope.com/genevahotels/ for hotels in and around the city centre (the Edelweiss or the Cornavin are respectable and reasonably priced for Geneva. The district called Les Paquis is the small red light district and is quite lively at night! The "cabaret" clubs which are heavily advertised around the time of the motor show (Moulin Rouge, ***** Cat -- http://www.*****-cat.ch/ --, Velvet, Must) will absolutely fleece you in about 5 seconds flat so beware unless of course you are absolutely loaded!!!
I may well take you up on your offer of going to the show with you guys - it's been 2 years since I last went and my advice to you would be to book early for your hotel and get to the show early as there is a lot to see and it gets very crowded indeed after mid-morning.
If you need any help just give me a shout. Everyone speaks English in the hotels, taxis, airport etc. so you shouldn't have any trouble with bookings.
Cheers,
Alwyn
