40MPH - OK for most of the island...however:
There's a nice long straight road down the western coast where the speed limit is still 40. I expect that nearly all the boy racers etc. on the island use this stretch of road as a dragstrip - although for all I know, speed humps and cameras have been installed all the awy along since I was there in 1994.
Also most people used to drive way above 40 on the 'dual carriageway' west of St. Helier, especially in the rush hour in a bid to beat others when the two lanes merge into one.

no speed cameras on the island as yet. But when youve got a 22b id drive slow just to be a big show off.
